JS Ninja + Mapmaker job opening at Zeega

We are thrilled to announce a new job opening for a JS Ninja + Mapmaker at Zeega! A winner of the 2011 Knight News Challenge, Zeega is an open-source platform for creating interactive documentaries and inventing new forms of storytelling. You would join a core team of futurists in the fields of journalism, documentary arts, interactive design and social entrepreneurship.

The primary activities of the JS Ninja + Mapmaker include:

* Working collaboratively with our tech and design teams to invent and implement cutting-edge mapping and visualization features in Zeega.
* This means writing lots of beautiful JavaScript code and drawing extensively upon existing open-source libraries such as backbone.js, leaflet.js, mapnik, tilemill, popcorn.js and others.
* You will also participate in experimental R&D, investigating the bleeding-edge potentials of HTML5 and open data, often through participating actively in open-source development communities through forums, hack days and other gatherings.

The ideal candidate has:

* Demonstrated experience in advanced JavaScript development
* Dedication to open source, open web, open data, openness all around
* A passion for maps and great stories told with data

Zeega is an independent, non-profit creative technology company. We are starting our own co-working/gallery space Square by Square in the middle of Cambridge and partner with other like-minded hackers/makers/designers in the Boston area and beyond. You can read more about Zeega here.

Compensation is competitive for nonprofit tech/media, and based on experience. This is a full-time position with benefits. You don’t have to live in Boston right now, but if hired, you would be expected to move here.

We’re starting interviews next week with a start date in the coming month.

If this sounds like something for you, send a cover letter and resume, including links to relevant projects/code to jobs [at] zeega.org. If you know anyone who you think would love this job, please spread the word.
